The Sims on Stage is Electronic Arts’ online community where creative people entertain their friends and the world. Sims on Stage enables users from around the globe to sing karaoke,upload video, to create virtual images and mash everything together. From the initial inception, the founders for Singshot.com approached Sofmen with a novel idea about an online karaoke site they wanted to build.
What We Did:
Sofmen helped with technology research and estimation efforts. Sofmen designed and implemented nearly the entire application, from the Web 2.0 front end to the performance-based scalable architecture. Sofmen is responsible for developing and deploying the following:
Membership system
Social Networking application
Database design & query optimization
Integrated e-commerce system
Data feeds to process incoming content for Karaoke lyrics and tunes.
Front end web development
Multimedia processing
Integrated member database into EA’s membership system
Developed the page and provided the flash player with all the metadata it needed to play the tune, display the lyrics
Built the server side component that will take the user recorded song, pass it through the mixer and publish it on the CDN.
Built a custom address book import mechanism for Yahoo, Gmail, Outlook, and AOL
The first release was developed and launched in about 7 months; the company was acquired by EA in Feb of 2007. The Sofmen team is approximately 90% of the development team. EA continues to increase the project scope and has increased the size of Sofmen team since acquiring SingShot.com. Our team continues to maintain and evolve Sims on Stage and has been asked to help with the development on other Sims websites.
